에 나와있으니까.... 커널 테이블은 보통 스왑하지 않는 메모리 상에서
사용하니까 그 제한 이내에서 할당하는 것은 가능할 것입니다. 이 테이블은
sysctl에 의해 조정될 수 있으므로(즉 동적이므로) 그때그때 생성해서
사용하니까, 현재 커널에서 사용할 수 있는 메모리의 양에 따라 좌우될
겁니다.

limit에는 소프트 제한과 하드 제한이 있습니다. (man getrlimit)
A resource limit is specified as a soft limit and a hard limit. When a
soft limit is exceeded a process may receive a signal (for example, if
the cpu time or file size is exceeded), but it will be allowed to contin-
ue execution until it reaches the hard limit (or modifies its resource
limit). The rlimit structure is used to specify the hard and soft limits
on a resource,
MAXUSERS의 값은 커널에서 허용할 수 있다는 값이고, 실제의 제한은 이보다
작습니다. 필요하다면 MAXUSERS에 기반한 계산식(위 소스)의 한도 내에서
이들 값을 지정할 수가 있습니다. 예를 들어
#!/bin/sh
sh this-script
라는 파일을 this-script라는 이름으로 저장하여 실행하면 무한히
fork()하게 되는데, 이러면 시스템이 다운되어 버리므로 한 프로세스
내에서 만들 수 있는 child의 수 등을 제한하도록 되어 있습니다. 필요하면
풀어놓고 사용하시면 되겠죠(man sysctl).

위의 설명 그대로, CHILD_MAX는 한 프로세스가 fork()할 수 있는 최대
프로세스 갯수, OPEN_MAX는 한 프로세스의 파일 디스크립터 테이블의 최대
갯수겠죠. 즉 한 프로그램에서 128개 파일 이상을 동시에 열 수 없다는 겁니다.
말씀드렸지만 한 시스템에서 열 수 있는 프로세스 갯수는 그렇게 많지
않습니다. 테이블을 아무리 늘려도, 486정도면 10000개가 아니라 2000개만
넘어도 시스템이 거의 맛갈 겁니다. (엔터키 치면 5분 있다 프롬프트가
나온다든가) 한번 해보세요. :) 펜티엄 II 400MHZ 두개짜리 SMP정도라면 더
많이 만들 수 있겠죠(한 5000개?) 정확히는 잘 모르겠습니다.
