/etc/shells 에 /bin/csh 나 /usr/local/bin/bash 등의 로긴셀을 적어 놓셔야

' 의 의미를 되세겨 보시면 쉽게 이해가 가실 겁니다.

예를 들어, 사용자의 셀로 /bin/csh로 준 경우,

이 사용자는 별다른 제어를 하지 않으면 telnet을 사용할 수 있습니다.
그러나, /etc/shells 목록에 /bin/csh을 등록하지 않으면
telnet 은 사용할 수 있을지언정, ftp는 사용할 수 없습니다.
(기본값으로 여러 셀이 등록되어 있는데 임의로 수정하신 듯?)

다음은 저의 /etc/shells 입니다.
저은 bash를 사용하기 때문에...

# $FreeBSD: src/etc/shells,v 1.3.2.1 2000/07/10 08:47:17 obrien Exp $
#
# List of acceptable shells for chpass(1).

/bin/csh
/usr/local/bin/bash
