쉘에서 한글 복기나 쓰기 어떻게 하나요?

FreeBSD 4.2 release를 쓰고 있는데 쉘에서 한글을 볼수 없으니
여간 불편한게 아닙니다.

한영사전(engdic) 명령에서는 한글 입력이 되는데
그냥 쉘 사용시 한글파일명도 물음표로만(??????)표시되어 나오고
한글 입력도 되질 않습니다.

우여곡절끝에 han을 설치했는데

# han
/usr/local/bin/hanfld> load KSC5601.1987-0 in shmem(65536): 276400 Bytes
/usr/local/bin/hanfld> load ISO8859-1 in shmem(65537): 4080 Bytes
HANgul On FreeBSD console ver.0.1 (06/04)

HAN> system error - ioctl CONSOLE_IO_ENABLE/KDENABIO: Inappropriate ioctl
for device
HAN> error reading /usr/local/etc/han.cfg

이렇게 메시지가 표시되고 되질 않아요.
여러분의 조언 기다리겠습니다.

아참 사용하는 쉘은 설치시 기본으로 깔려 있는 csh입니다.
